The hotel has 7 double rooms, 3 junior suites and 2 suites with a living room and a fireplace, or private terrace. All rooms can be climatised using a private remote control, and bathrooms are fully equipped. Being a historic and protected building that dates back to the XV century, all rooms are different. Some have wooden ceilings, and others Arabic bricks or terracotta floors. The hotel is decorated in a cozy way according to the style of the house, confering simplicity, elegance, and character. El Santiscal farmhouse has a dinning room, an arbour with crystal, a reading room with fireplace, a garden with swimming pool, terraces, direct access to the lake, an Andalusian courtyard, a bar and a private parking. It is surrounded by a large extension of land with olive trees, sunflower and wheat fields. It was awarded the brand “Natural Park of Andalusia”, and is currently in process to be adhered to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas.
Sustainable agriculture/ farming:
Our main concerns are to integrate the accommodation establishment with the environment, and to protect and conserve the building. We would like to implement all possible measures, including a policy for the protection of the environment, so that the farm can be sustainable, and mostly ecological. For that reason, we applied for the quality brand “Natural Parks in Andalusia” 3 years ago, and we have currently implemented 80% of all required measures to obtain the certification. We encourage cooking local products in our kitchen (oranges, olives, asparagus, cheeses, cold meats, olive oil, jerez vinager, wines, meat..).
Cultural Heritage and Rural Development:
We only sell local crafts like leather and silver products made by silversmiths and crafters from Ubique. Beside, we motivate our customers to discover and buy souvenirs made in the Sierra of Cadiz. We inform our guests how they can access to these products; provide information and manage bookings of activites that can be done in the surroundings such as walking, cycling, wine tasting tours to artisan wineries, rural traditional home made food, nature observation and birdwatching. We have restored an old access from our garden to the protected natural setting of Arcos Lake, and provide our guests with binoculars and guidebooks to identify native fauna and flora. We encouraged our customers, to travel along Arcos Lake by the first solar- power boat in Andalusia.
In order to reduce our impacts on the environment, we have already implemented 80% of all measures required to obtain the quality brand “Natural Parks in Andalusia”. We installed a solar energy system, and implemented water efficiency measures such as half water tanks in w.c.; shower gel, shampoo and soap dispensers instead of individual supplies; low energy light bulbs; paper, printer cartridge, battery recycling systems; glass, cardboard and plastic waste management; certified wood providers; information signs that notify our guests the availability of a heating towel system so that they can dry and reuse their towels.
We applied for the quality brand “Natural parks of Andalusia” three years ago, and 80% of measures have been already implemented. We collaborate with associations such as Wild Life as well as specialized birdwatching travel agencies, for example Ecotravel.
